About Max Shemwell
Maybe it’s genetics?? My grandfather, Kit Karson Shemwell, started “Shemwell Insurance” in my hometown of Doniphan, Missouri in 1908. Traveling by horseback and train, he insured farms, livestock and homes in SE Missouri and NE Arkansas. My father, Max Sr., took over after WWII and expanded and operated the business until he retired in 1982. Today, I’m proud to offer to my clients many of the same fine companies that Kit and Max represented during their careers.
I graduated from the University of Arizona in 1982, and within a year, I began my insurance career here in Tucson. After 27 years as a captive agent, I made the switch to become a “Trusted Choice” Independent Agent, which allows me access to multiple companies, enabling me to give competitive pricing and a broad choice of products to my clients. I don’t believe in the “one size fits all” approach to insurance.
My wife Elizabeth has been a teacher in the Marana School District for many years. We have been married for 22 years, and we are fortunate to have 2 great kids. I love just about any outdoor activity. I am an avid mountain biker and hiker and I support many fine organizations and non–profits that promote multi-use trail access, expansion, and maintenance. On weekends, you’re likely to spot me biking or hiking somewhere in the Tortolita Mountains, near our home in Dove Mountain.
